OUR STORY.

The Warrumbungle Historical Society was formed in 1966 and changed its name to the Coonabarabran Historical Society in 1981. The group went into recess in 1995 and a new group, the Dead Persons Society, was formed circa 1999.

In 2002 the Dead Persons Society became an incorporated body, registered as the Coonabarabran DPS Local & Family History Group Inc.

This name remained until 2019 when, once again the group changed the name to the Coonabarabran History Group Inc.

The Coonabarabran History Group undertakes research into local ancestry and localities within the Warrumbungle Shire.

The group's small band of volunteers keeps our Research Centre operating smoothly by managing the office, fund raising, researching, compiling information, publishing books and archiving our records, thus preserving the history of Coonabarabran.

We have numerous records of families, businesses, properties and land transactions within our Shire.

We are a passionate collection of volunteers who share a love for the past lives of those who shaped this wonderful part of our world. Excursions to places of interest around the district are arranged by the group which includes visiting cemeteries, old homesteads, isolated grave sites and other places of historical significance.

Our office is open Friday: 9 am to 12 noon at the

Visitor Information Centre, Newell Hwy, Coonabarabran.  NSW

We hold a general meeting of members. Please phone 0477 394 865 for meeting dates.

If you would like to know more about this vibrant group or are interested in joining us, please go to the contact page where you will find contact information.

Coonabarabran History Group welcomes information you are willing to share about your ancestry, local buildings or land, rural properties, or research you may have undertaken.
